Born under an unholy curse, Cesare is haunted by the presence of wicked spirits fervent to take over his soul and posses his promised body. Hated by everyone in his family except his younger sister Lucrezia, he focuses his strength to the relentless pursuit of power as a means of overcoming his seemingly endless suffering. This pursue will convert him into a master swordsman, a talented manipulator, a cold blooded strategist and a ruthless killer. But beneath Cesare’s merciless exterior beats a wounded heart crying out for understanding.

Cesare’s biological mother and previous Cardinal Rodrigo’s lover, she states her body was seized by devils and clearly heard Cesare’s damnation in the words “The pact is sealed” announcing his soul being given to the devils. Nachine beyond horrified and distressed decides to strangle her just born child but the evil spirits already protect their promised reward (Cesare) starting up a fire which lead to her unfortunate death and what looked like a miracle as baby Cesare survives the incident unarmed.

Cesare’s father, a man so ambitious that he would do anything to become the next Pope of Renaissance Italy -- even use his own children as pawns in his complex, political schemes. However, even he is not prepared to cope with the evil unleashed by his ruthless treatment of his son Cesare.
Vanozza Catanei

“You are no ordinary man. Your body is an impure ting given over to demons. Who could possibly love you? There’s no use wanting to be ‘human’.” Vanozza‘s Evil form to Cesare.
“I have …NOBODY!” Cesare replies in thought while surprisingly kissing Sancia.
Juan Borgia

The youngest son of Cardinal Rodrigo and Vanozza Catanei is the most spoiled, as his father gifts him with all the power that enormous wealth can provide. Juan grows into a hot-tempered young man who sees his older brother Cesare as nothing more than a maggot to be ground under his heel. He does not suspect that he will play a pivotal role in transforming Cesare from an innocent child into a deadly enemy.

No greater love beats for Cesare than that in his little sister’s heart. He is the light that protects her from darkness, and the warmth that chases away the cold. She places her soul and her future in his hands. But he, who has sworn to be her protector, may very well end up crushing her under his feet on his journey to ultimate power.

A relative from Spain, she is introduced as the three children guardian after Vanozza departure as per Cardinal Rodrigo request. Cruel above strict, she quickly makes young Cesare’s life impossible and try her best to ridicules him to break his will.
Orso Orsini

He’s Adriana’s son and first introduces himself to help Cesare although his intentions are far from being better than his mother. Orso seems to keep some grudge against the Borgias being revealed later that Rodrigo sleeps with his wife, Giulia Farnese, in common agreement with his mother Adriana making them all him look as a fool.
Marrone

A hired champion swordsman, who turns out to be Giulia Farnese’s lover, he is also Cesare’s savior in Orsini’s incident and later teaches him the way of the sword. However Marrone is a double-faced man hiding his true office, assassination. After a failed attempt to kill Rodrigo, his life ends at Cesare’s hands more likely being the first step towards the adult Cesare.

Orso Orsini’s wife, young and beautiful she was raised to fulfill her family wills to obtain social position thus for giving out her body to gain power. After the failed assassination attempt she acknowledges Cesare as a dangerous person despite his young age and tries to make her way slipping her intentions to Rodrigo’s son, however Cesare is no fool and quickly controls her by fear. She ends being one of Cesare’s first pawns and entrusts her Lucrezia’s safety for many years.
After a considerable time span, Giulia starts to develop feelings for Cesare, be it out of angst mixed with a twisted infatuation; she ends captivated by the evil burning within the grown up Borgia. Unfortunately, Cesare never meets her feelings and crushes her soul and mind.

Chiaro/don Michelotto

Friendly, vibrant Chiaro (the Italian word for “light”) is bound by family ties to become an assassin who hides his true self behind the black mask of a cold, calculating killer. Desperate to wash the stain of blood off his hands, Chiaro accepts an assignment that will permanently release his family from their traditional livelihood. He does not anticipate that his quarry will be Cesare Borgia -- a young man whose dangerously hypnotic gaze will alter the course of his life forever.

The man in charge of Santa Angelo’s castle and act as Chiaro’s assassinations supervisor. He used to obligate Chiaro to follow his family steps wearing the Michelotto mask, using as a mean his loosen of mind father, the previous Michelotto. However, as Chiaro challenged him to save what was important to him, Bartolomeo was turned into a pawn puppet trough Cesare’s toxic blood.
Pedro Luis
He was only mentioned in volume 1, being the former Duke of Grandia and Rodrigo’s elder son as well as Cesare’s half brother. It is also said that he was of sickly nature which fasten his death, also one of the counted natural deaths so far.
Tagio della Volpe

Cesare’s trust-worthy retainer, he’s been assigned to take care of his Lord back to his days at Perugia’s seminary and has stayed at his side since then. Along with Chiaro, he’s the closest to a right hand and confident Cesare has. He also serves as information collector and probably as a spy himself. His relationship with Cesare is at first a simple servant-master type however, as Chiaro’s actions and his relationship with him reach an entanglement, Volpe steps in with a renewed strength seeing in Cesare the true conqueror he is destined to be.
Giovanni Sforza of Pasaro

It is implied that he knows Cesare from an earlier meeting they held from which Giovanni thought he had gained enough of Cesare’s trust and expected some kind of intimacy however, short tempered, rude and rather dense as he is, Giovanni is no more than a useful mean to achieve allegiance of the Sforza household from Milan. He is wedded to Lucrezia Borgia although because of her young age he is never allowed to consume their bond, although the young lady had to suffer his brutal behavior and most likely constant harassment.

Chiaro’s alias Cesare has come to as his friend face could be recognized in Rome. When Michel da Corella was being introduced to Lucrezia, Cesare pointed out he was wearing a mask because of a scar across his face. A helpful lie Chiaro has to keep up with and remember to always wear his mask unless he is alone with Cesare.
Jofre Borgia

The last and youngest addition to Rodrigo Borgia unconventional family, he is Cesare’s younger brother but doesn’t participate actively in his life. Jofre was engaged and married to Princess Sancia d’Aragon of the Spanish crown however Jofre still a child is more a burden and an annoying toy than a husband. Jofre and Cesare interaction is also near to none at the time.

Prince Djem

The younger of two brothers, Prince Djem is kept as a political hostage thus ensuring his brother, Sultan Bayazit, absolute rule. His beautiful features and charisma attracts many people, be them Ottoman allies or Italian fellow. It has been rumored Juan Borgia was feeling more than sympathy for the hostage prince leading the Pope Alexander VI to sent him back to Spain. After an assassination ordered by Cesare, Chiaro came across the Prince and started a simple friendship unaware of Prince Djem’s true intentions.
