You Higuri was born in Osaka. She graduated from Saga Art University in Kyoto, where she majored in Visual Design. She made her manga debut in 1993 with Azel Seimaden. She has created over 15 manga titles, including Cutlass, Gorgeous Carat, Seimaden, and Zeus. Her works have been translated and published in countries all over the world.
Cantarella is her most successful manga to date, and is up to 10 volumes in Japan. In spite of her professional success, Higuri remains active in the field of doujinshi (self-published manga), in order to stay in contact with her tens of thousands of fans. She lives in Takarazuka-shi with her Papillion dogs. She’s a collector of the gorgeous bisque porcelain dolls of Kira Ono. She is also a lover of chestnuts – “Higuri” actually means “Ice chestnut,” and one of her dogs is named Marron, the French word for chestnut.
